Abstract

This study is the methodologica research to develop an algorithm and a protocol for emergency care on an acute stroke patients who has mainly neurological disorders in the emergency department.
The clinical records of 16 patients among those in emergency department, who were diagnosed as stroke when leaving the emergency department or the hospital, were examined. The protocol has been developed by analyzing and modifying the flow of the algorithm which was made by studying documentary records.
The procedures of this study are as follows:
The final algorithm is composed of 4 phases: The 1st assess and control phase, the 2nd assess and emergency stroke triage phase, the acute stroke control phase, and the 4th phase of making a decision on going into hospital or leaving it. And the necessary emergency intervention and care at each phase is supposed to be checked by a guide to work according to the protocol, whose content includes 99 details.
The algorithm and the protocol developed by this study can be a scientific base helpful to an accurate and fast decision-making at the emergency department surroundings, and a practical guide to work contributory to improving emergency nursing work with increase of the work efficiency.
